III Trophy Valle del Arlanza

Presentation

The III Trophy Valle del Arlanza is divided into two independent events: the 4th round of the Spanish Rogaine League 2024, and the IbeRogaine Spanish Championship 2024, which will take place simultaneously on September 14, 2024 in Palacios de la Sierra and Moncalvillo de la Sierra in Burgos.

The Rogaine or Ultrascore-Rogaining is a specialty of the sport of orienteering based on map reading and navigation, strategy of choice of controls to visit, teamwork and endurance capacity, with a time limit, where participants always compete in teams of 2 to 5 orienteers. The route is free, each control has a score, and the objective of each team is to get the highest score within the maximum time limit, so that the team has to develop its strategy based on the physical and technical capacity of its members. The time limit will be between 3 and 24 hours depending on the categories. Exceeding the time limit set by the organization results in penalties that deduct score. The controls are marked on the terrain with an orienteering control flag.

These two events will be a great showcase for the most important orienteering event of this specialty, the World Rogaine Championship (WRC 2025), which will be held in the municipalities of Quintanar, Palacios y Regumiel de la Sierra, Vilviestre del Pinar and Neila on the 5th and 6th of July 2025 on an adjacent map to the one that will be enjoyed in this event.

The 4th round of the Spanish Rogaine League 2024 will have a duration of 6 hours (except for the Open Short category, which will last 3 hours). The IbeRogaine Spanish Championship has the same rules, only that the competition time will be 12 hours.

The organisers want the participants to enjoy the competition as much as possible and that all the teams that wish to do so can compete in both events, the National U-Rogaine League (FEDO) and the IbeRogaine Spanish Championship (IbeRogaine League), and the points obtained will be used for their respective rankings.

All teams that register for the Spanish U-Rogaine League may also score points in the Spanish IbeRogaine Championship (12 hours) as long as they meet the participation requirements of both regulations.

Teams that register for the Spanish U-Rogaine League (FEDO) will be able to score points in the Spanish IbeRogaine Championship as long as they reach the finish line 6 hours after the start of the race. They will be able to continue their race until completing the 12 hours of the Spanish IbeRogaine Championship. Details of how teams should proceed will be set out in the last bulletin.

In order to ensure that all teams wishing to take part in both competitions comply with the same rules, and therefore have the same opportunities, the start of both races will take place at the same time, with the same strategy preparation time.

Greetings from the mayoress of Palacios de la Sierra

Dear orienteering friends,

The weekend of the 14th and 15th of September, Palacios de la Sierra is going to be the protagonist of a national sporting event. We are waiting with open arms for more than 400 orienteers from all over Spain to participate in the III Trophy Valle del Arlanza. These athletes will be divided between two different orienteering competitions within the same event. One will be the 4th round of the Spanish U-Rogaining League 2024, and the other, the IbeRogaine Spanish Championship.

Palacios de la Sierra offers a sufficiently extensive and varied environment to make it a magnificent setting to enjoy the Rogaine modality. I’m sure it won’t leave you indifferent.

This town, which I have the honour to represent, not only has a very beautiful mountain, it also has many other things to enjoy such as its history, art, culture and gastronomy. The landscapes of El Robledal, La Dehesa, La Sierra, Las Torres, each with its own singularities, are scenery worth visiting and all the participants will enjoy them during the race.

My warmest welcome to all participants and companions to these orienteering events, good luck and enjoyment to all, and from now on, thank you very much for everything.

Finally, as a farewell, my congratulations and thanks to all the collaborators and organizers of the event, especially to the Tjalve Sport Club, for the work, effort and affection with which they have prepared these national orienteering trials, and for having chosen Palacios de la Sierra to carry them out.

See you soon. Best regards.
